Great Fast 3rd week “Prodigal Son”
We are often troubled by the many lusts and desires if the world, the desire for material things, pleasures of the body, and worldly success. Yet all of these things are temporary and empty. As the Scripture reminds us: “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” Ecclesiastes 1:2.
When a person understands the truth about life, they realize that true goodness is not found in the world but in being close to God. As the Psalmist says: “But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all your works.” Psalm 73:28. The truth is beautifully illustrated in the parable of the prodigal son. The son believed that his happiness and freedom were outside his father’s house. he left, thinking the world would satisfy him. but after experiencing he pursued was vanity. He returned to his father’s house, where true life and love were.
The father’s reaction shows the heart of God toward us: “But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.” Luke 15:20
God never rejects the one who returns to Him. Even when we are far away, if we begin to come back, He sees us from afar and runs toward us with open arms.
God alone if life, and there is no true life apart from Him. No matter how much money a person has, how strong they are, or how powerful they become, there is no true purpose outside of God.
Therefore, let us always remember that it is better to remain and draw close to the Lord, because He is the only source of true life, peace, and fulfillment.
